International financial institutions have a major role in the world economy. It has all began a year before the end of the Second World War, when people were already aware that the war is close to the end. The goals of created strategies were to help people and the whole economic system to rebuild the economies and boost the development. In the years after the Second Wold War, international financial institutions such as World Bank and International Monetary Fund improved the economic conditions on a numerous occasions in the following years. Throughout the years, the economies became more opened, developed and a number of treaties have been signed so the international financial institutions developed and adjusted to the new market demand and conditions. By the development of the world economy, the gap between the rich and the poor countries increased which is one of the critics of the international financial institutions. At the end of the 20th century and in the beginning of the 21st century, especially in the years before the financial crisis, a number of people have spoken with criticism about these institutions, but after the financial crisis hit the economies around the world, a necessity for them rose again. The future of the international financial institutions is in the process of adjustment to the new conditions on the market, but also to the one that are forthcoming.
