Considering that investment in information systems is a major part of any company’s investment, it changes the way people work and live, as well as changes the structure and way of doing business of modern companies. Additionally, the need to educate people who need a software solution inspired the research in this paper. Software development methodologies differ depending on the type and use of the software and client requirements. There is also a difference in price and sometimes clients are not fully aware of the software solutions available in the market. Therefore, the research resulted in a comparative analysis between custom-made solutions and off-the-shelf software solutions, as well as an analysis of the effects and economic contributions of software development. For solutions that are frequently needed, there is often an existing solution. On the other hand, a custom-made solution is completely customized to the client, made to order, requires construction from scratch and is more expensive. Software development is characterized by different methodologies in project processes. Accordingly, the product owner and back-end developer from the Dutch company Dealroom were interviewed. The review is given in the context of the Scrum methodology in Agile project management approach. In addition, a partner from the Hexis software development company shared his professional experience, and notes were collected during the internship at Hexis company. As well, in the interview, the founder of the company Oxygen Tech gave his review of the construction of the software solution and elaborated in detail on the process of developing a custom mobile application for the customer. Custom-made and SaaS digital products are compared together with methodologies for product development used by software development teams. Finally, the discussion focuses on the reasons why SaaS industry attracts investments and how software is changing the world in which we live.
