The installed power of renewable energy has been steadily increasing over the last few years in the European Union. Increased share of installed power from renewable energy in previous periods primarily in solar energy and wind power has put additional requirements for regulators and legislators in the European Union. With the aim of reaching defined targets for the share of renewable sources, but lowering costs for citizens, EU legislators have made recommendations for new support schemes for renewable energy. The purpose of the recommended new incentive scheme is to transfer financial expenditure from citizens to renewable energy producers through greater integration into the market. Bosnia and Herzegovina is a signatory to the Energy Community Treaty and is obliged to transmit the European legislative framework for the energy sector to its own. The current support scheme for renewable sources in Bosnia and Herzegovina with a guaranteed purchase price (Feed-in) needs to be modified. Expected changes to the incentive system will affect the further development of wind power plants in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The current incentive systems in the European Union have been analyzed and future developments in order to anticipate the expected changes in Bosnia and Herzegovina support schemes. Simulations have been made with assumed changes in the support schemes, to simulate the impact of changes in the support schemes on the cost-effectiveness of wind power plant development. Analysis of profitability was conducted analyzing key financial indicators for Feed-in, Premium and Market scheme scenarios. Carried analysis has shown that the development of a feasible power plant in Bosnia and Herzegovina is only possible in the Feedin and Pricing support schemes where the producer is wholly or partly protected from the market by incentives. Simulation market schemes scenario has shown that investing in wind power plants in Bosnia and Herzegovina with full market exposure is not profitable.
