This thesis explores the multiple impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on several environmental sectors, such as water resources, waste management, air quality and recycling processes. The paper observed significant changes in water consumption patterns, characterized by an increase in household water consumption and a decrease in industrial consumption as a result of the quarantine and economic downturns caused by the epidemic. The thesis focused on the increase in medical and plastic waste in the field of waste management, which is exacerbated by the increasing use of personal protective equipment (PPE). The paper examined the burden placed on the waste management system and highlighted the immediate need for improved recycling processes and infrastructure. The research showed an initial improvement in air quality in cities as a result of reduced vehicle traffic and industrial activity during the period of rigorous quarantines. Nevertheless, the long-term sustainability of these improvements remains a concern, as there is the potential for rapid reversals once economic activity resumes. The efficiency of recycling operations was challenged by safety concerns and changes in the composition of waste, which led to disruptions in recycling processes. This emphasized the importance of adaptive solutions in waste processing. Overall, the paper highlights the intricate connections between pandemic-induced changes and environmental management practices. The research points to the implementation of comprehensive solutions that can adapt to the ever-changing environmental challenges posed by global health problems.
