Abstract
This bachelor thesis provides the overview of a relatively new kind of currencies called cryptocurrencies and their supplementary technology blockchain. Among many forms and types of cryptocurrencies the bachelor thesis focuses on the most popular ones (according to their media attention and their market volume) such as Bitcoin, Litecoin and Ethereum. The bachelor thesis provides an insight on their slow beginning to meteoric rise to fame on global evening news. The author of the bachelor thesis also discu sses the technical aspect of the blockchain technology, history of development regarding blockchain as well as the basic characteristics and its potential future importance around the globe. At the end of the bachelor thesis there is a discussion about the future developments of both the cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology, author’s opinion about the topic and a summation of the entire bachelor thesis.
