Abstract
Bonds market together with loans is forming debt market which in aggregate is about 3 times the size of the global equity market. One of most important parts of debt market is government bond market because of large size and high liquidity. In times of economic distress investors are searching for safe havens in financial markets. One of safest financial instruments are the United States debt securities. Before investing in the U.S. Treasuries, investors should know basic bond characteristics, importance of the yield curve, along with risk measurements and yield curve trading strategies. Investor can use yield curve slopes, shifts or yield spreads as a forecasting tool of future economic outlook or to understand expectations of other investors in the market. Main purpose of this research is proper understanding of yield changes and steps investor has to take to gain higher returns or to reduce different risks.
