Abstract | The process of development and emergence of e-commerce began in the early 1990s and it was imagined as electronic purchase of products and services without any physical contact with stores or offices. Digitalisation as a process changed everything, from the point how people think and work to way of doing business. E-business is an easy access to customers and clients woldwide that helps in first hand suppliers than customers and identifies new business opportunities, availability and pricing. Today e-commerce is safe online transaction used in high number of users and super fast payout that is easier than waiting in the line in the store. Powerful technology development has enabled today΄s globalization, especially the development of information technology. Electronic commerce can be divided into two main areas: Business to Business (B2B) and Business to Customer (B2C). Digitalisation of e-commerce business was observed on the example of Macy's retail chain. Macy's Inc. was founded on December 13, 1985, and makes a omnichannel retail company operating in stores, websites, and mobile apps under various brands such as Macy's, Bloomingdale's, and Bluemercury. The company employs as many as 175,000 workers as their dedication to digital business transformation, and also by launching an internal technological incubator called IdeaLab. Macy's as a famous retail chain introduced various innovations in their business operation like "smart wardrobes" on the wall, "smart mirrors", labeling products at the store using RFID technology and electronic label etags, deliveries on the same day using the ShopKick application and ShopBeacon technology, Macy's mobile application, Macy's Wallet, Macy's Image Search, etc. Macy's is constantly introducing new innovations in their business to provide customers with unique shopping experience. Also digitalisation is present internally and impact of information technologies is present on sales and marketing, procurement, accounting and finance and human capital. |
