Abstract
The global financial crisis appeared in 2008 almost suddenly. It came after the global economy had been significantly developing. Of course, the domino effect was present, so there was almost no country that was not hit by the crisis. It did not omit Croatia. Since Croatia is, in general, very dependent on other economies and their trends, it was the country that was highly affected by the global financial crisis. The consequences were extremely hard. Reflected to the citizens, their quality of living dropped gradually and strikingly. Their personal consumption dropped, including export and investments. Croatia was the country whose being in the financial crisis was one of the longest because when it joined the European Union in 2013 it was still passing through recession, five years after the beginning of the global financial crisis. That integration certainly helped Croatia to get out of the crisis faster and more efficiently. The aim of this thesis is to analyze fiscal policy and its features as well as economic growth in the recession period in Croatia and compare it to the post-recession period to conclude the economic position of Croatia.
