Abstract
Since even before the computers, people used accounting to record their transactions and their financial obligations to others. As the time moved on and new technologies became available accounting developed together with it and adopted new forms. With the dawn of the 21st century and sudden rise in popularity of technology, accounting started to take the shape of all kinds of virtual programs. Computers allowed people to eliminate the paper and pen and record their transactions in a way where the possibility of error is far lower. Now in the 2010s one more advancement starts to appear, cloud computing and widespread availability of the internet, and accounting is moving in the same way. Online versions of programs become increasingly popular, and the best known one is QuickBooks. QuickBooks is an accounting program predominantly used in America, but its usage in the rest of the world has been significantly lower. This paper will elaborate all of its advantages and disadvantages. It will go in depth specifically about steps that need to be taken to perform certain tasks like sending an invoice and paying employees their salaries. The final goal will be to show that QuickBooks is compatible with the European market (more specifically Croatia and the neighbouring countries) and why more companies should use it.
